13 unconnected tiles - Hong Kong Rules

Currently you can win with e.g. 1,3,5,7,9 which I don't think is unintended as according to wiki it must be tiles with which it is not possible to form a sequence.

u cannot form a sequece with 1 3 5 7 9, so it is 13 unconnected tiles.

Hi Oliver just wanted to clarify that he is correct. 1-3 can form a sequence if a 2 appears so that cannot work.

It must be 1-4-7, 3-6-9, or 2-5-8 in the same suit for MCR at least. For Hong Kong new rules it can be 1-4-(7-9) for instance and not locked to 1-4-7 since 8 or 9 cannot form a sequence with 4.

I hope this clarifies. But 1-3 can for a sequence, 3-5 also can, 5-7 also can, 7-9 can as well. It has to be 3 tiles apart so that the tiles are completely unrelated and can't form anything.

Thanks for clarification Jayrocs.

@Oliver, apologies for any ambiguity. Eternally grateful for the best MJ platform on the internet.

Keep doing what you're doing.

Make sense. Will change it

I copied the 13 Not Connected from MCR, which means 147 258 369 from 3 suits, plus honor tiles.

@Jayrocs, thx for the clarification. I have a question:

In the webpage, http://mahjong.wikidot.com/rules:hong-kong-new-style-scoring, it says

Hand contains no tiles that can form a potential sequence or pair.

How about a hand containing 147 bamboos, 147 dots, 147 characters, and honor tiles? This hand satisfies the condition, but I doubt it counts as 13 not connected.

Oliver 2020-08-05T11:28:41Z

13 not connected just means there are no suit tiles within 2 of each other, and no pairs of honor tiles. So something like 159m27p269sESNGR would count.

Yes those would still count for hong kong's unconnected tiles but NOT for MCR knitted straight.

You could implement both if you want but if you only kept MCR's version that should be fine too as long as you clarify the rules of having specifically 147 in one suit, 258 in another, and 369 in another requiring all 3 suits.

I imagine one of the harder rules to code but still bugged atm.

Hi Oliver,

Would you mind putting it back to the way it was before until you have come up with a fix.

Before, the player had the option to choose whether to take the tile for the win. At the moment this hand is unplayable.

Many thanks, K

The latest rule for HongKong 13 Not Connected.

  1. No two tiles are a pair, and
  2. No two numbered tiles have difference smaller than 3

The MCR 13 Not Connected is not affected in this update. Please refer to MCR document for the details.

I hopes that help fans. cheers

Many thanks Oliver!
